Eastlake is one of Seattle’s most established neighborhoods with the most eclectic mix of housing you’ll find anywhere in the city. Situated on the eastern edge of Lake Union, the neighborhood is well known for its villages of floating homes or houseboats. Eastlake also has a well defined business district, distinctive single family homes, townhomes and condominiums (many with city, mountain and water views).
In the early 1900s, industries—including Boeing’s first factory—fronted much of the shoreline. During the ‘40s and ‘50s, houseboats replaced factories and multifamily buildings replaced single family dwellings. Today a new waterfront development offers floating home, a mega-yacht marina and offices. Eastlake’s proximity to Lake Union affords many street-end waterfront parks. Eastlake Avenue, the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, is dotted with businesses, restaurants, shops and cafés.
