Thought for food … safety

Posted: November 2nd, 2011 by Just Real Seattle

Winter often brings storms and widespread power outtages. When the lights go out, do you know how long the food in your refrigerator will stay fresh? If you have a full freezer, your food items could very well keep for up to a week or longer if the door remains shut. In the refrigerator, you may have at best three days before everything goes bad.

Here’s a tip for those who don’t have back-up generators: keep a thermometer in your refrigerator. If the temperature rises above 40 degrees farenheit, you’ll need to start tossing. The best rule of thumb; when in doubt, throw it out!
